FAQs
Q. Can I apply to multiple programs?
A: We recommend starting with the Program Matcher tool to identify the best fit. If you’re on the border between two programs, our team will help you decide during the interview process.
Q: What sectors do you serve?
A: We support founders building technology for public good across all sectors, including government, healthcare, education, and more. If your solution creates social impact, you belong at Hutch.
Q: Do I need to be building for government customers?
A: No! While many Hutch founders work with government, we support companies serving any mission-driven market. Our cross-sector approach helps you identify opportunities wherever your solution can create value.
Q: What does "endorsed by Fearless" mean?
A: Hutch is the small business ecosystem of Fearless, a Baltimore-based digital services company. This relationship gives you access to Fearless’s network, expertise, and credibility, but Hutch operates independently with its own programs and community.
Q: Are programs virtual or in-person?
A: In-person. Core curriculum is delivered in-person. We also host quarterly virtual events and a cohort retreat for deeper connections.
Q: What happens after I complete a program?
A: You become part of the Hutch network. You’ll have ongoing access to events, mentorship, and the community, plus opportunities to give back by mentoring newer founders.
Q: How competitive is admission?
A: We accept approximately 40-50% of applicants across all programs. We look for founders who are coachable, committed, and building solutions with meaningful impact potential.
Q: Can I defer to a future cohort if I'm accepted?
A: In some cases, yes. If timing doesn’t work, let us know during the interview process. We want you to participate when you can fully commit.
Q: Can I participate if I already have some revenue?
A: Yes! Hutch Launch is designed for pre-revenue to early-stage companies (under $500K annual revenue). If you’re above $500K, we recommend Hutch Genesis.
Q: What if I can't make a specific session?
A: We expect 90% attendance, but understand things come up. All sessions are recorded and available for 24 hours. However, you’ll miss the peer interaction, which is a core part of the experience.
Q: Do I need to be based in a specific location?
A: No. While Hutch was founded in Baltimore, we serve founders nationwide. Virtual sessions make the program accessible regardless of location, with optional in-person events for those nearby.
Q: What if my solution serves only government vs. only commercial customers.
A: That’s perfectly fine! While we encourage founders to explore cross-sector opportunities, we support businesses focused on specific markets. Our goal is to help you identify all viable paths to growth.
Q: Is Hutch only for tech companies?
A: We primarily serve technology-enabled businesses (software, platforms, data, AI, etc.), but we welcome founders using technology to create public or social impact across any sector—government, healthcare, education, and beyond.
