Hutch alumni company MASTERMND partners with Betamore for free engineering training

Making tech more accessible to people is the mission of MASTERMND Academy.

The 2020 Hutch cohort graduate company focuses on creating technical talent pipelines by delivering live, interactive technical skills training through a combination of scalable platforms. 

The free training MASTERMND offers has predominantly been online, but a new partnership with Betamore takes the virtual learning in-person and into Baltimore City. The 22-week software engineering program is being run through Betamore Academy located at Betamore’s City Garage headquarters. 

All accepted students will be given the chance to co-work out of Betamore for the duration of the program to ensure all have the resources needed to succeed. Expected project work for the software engineering program will be done at home with opportunities for virtual instruction for the initial cohort.

Betamore, an innovative and visionary hub for entrepreneurs and civic leaders, recently announced a partnership with 2020 Hutch alumni and technical talent pipeline company MASTERMND to pilot a 22-week software engineering program, Betamore Academy, in the heart of Baltimore City

“Through a grant awarded to Betamore by the Abell Foundation, we’ve been able to get this new program off the ground and greatly look forward to executing against the plans in place,” said Kimmy Andrulonis, Director of Operations at Betamore.  As a nonprofit, we rely heavily on grant funding and generous partnerships to continue supporting our community and city’s workforce development needs. Additional funding for this program, and others, will be sought after in the coming months. New partners are encouraged to reach out directly if interested.”

The MASTERMND/Betamore partnership program will initially train 10-15 Baltimore City residents in various core software concepts over 22 weeks. Classes will be held at Betamore’s City Garage headquarters. The first six weeks will focus on building a strong skills foundation for participants so they can build on what they learn throughout the program and successfully enter the tech industry.

Working with Betamore, thanks to the support of the Abell Foundation, will help us reach more people and jumpstart more careers. This partnership is the first huge step in being able to lay the framework for building sustainable digital engineering pipelines without barriers.”

The Betamore team looks at this partnership as a mechanism to provide organizations and entrepreneurs access to the talent and resources required to not only grow and scale, but innovate and get to the next level.

MASTERMND is no stranger to the Baltimore tech ecosystem. As a former employee of Fearless, and a 2020 graduate of Hutch, Founder & CEO, Aaron Brooks has long been active in  mentoring individuals looking for a place in tech.

To qualify, you must: 

  1. A desire to pursue a career in software development/engineering
  2. Have a basic proficiency using a computer and the internet
  3. Have some knowledge of coding/software development (bonus, not required)
  4. Have a high school diploma or GED (11th grade or better ability in reading and math)
  5. Be a U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the U.S.
  6. Have never committed a violent crime
  7. Be free of all illegal substance use for the past eighteen month.
